“Infernal Climb”

This limited edition series of graphic prints derives from the significant 2020 installation, “Infernal Climb,” first exhibited in the dramatic Effimero Labyrinth of Galassi, Alfonsine (Ravenna).

“Infernal Climb” (Scalata Infernale)

This installation explores the “double direction of the infernal ladder,” drawing a parallel with Dante’s structured, “scalable” Inferno. In Dante’s vision, hell is a descent for souls who rejected their “natural talent.”

The ladder, placed precariously at the heart of a labyrinth, serves as a powerful metaphor for confronting one’s inner state and the challenges of the artistic path. It represents a connection to a Dantesque underworld but also offers a suggestion of escape or self-redemption.

During the installation, red threads were left for participants to tie onto the ladder, allowing them to personally mark their journey, their struggle, or their chosen path away from the labyrinth’s center.

Rooted in the structural symbolism of Dante’s Inferno, the work critiques the artistic struggle while exploring existential choices. The precarious ladder, isolated within the labyrinth, acts as a contemporary metaphor for the “scalable” descent into self-doubt and the challenges facing those who reject their “natural talent.”

Installed during the global pause of the COVID era, “Infernal Climb” became a potent statement: a call to confront one’s own center and, simultaneously, a structure suggesting a path for “escape” and renewal.

These fine art prints transform the original installation’s ephemeral nature into a permanent, collectible asset. Each piece is a numbered and signed representation of the work’s profound dialogue between precarity and potential.
